Q: Why are you excited to speak at CodeLand 2021?
Gift: I'm excited I get to speak at CodeLand 2021 because it's a community close to my heart. I've been a member of the Code Newbie community right from when I started my career in tech and excited I get to share my knowledge with a group of early-career developers!
Q: What role did community play in the early days of your software development journey?
Gift: Coding communities helped me a lot when I started in tech. I participated in the #100DaysofCode challenge. It was the most amazing experience and how I started my journey of learning in public. I also began blogging after deciding to take on the "Blog More Challenge" — part of the CodeNewbie Challenge 2018.

Q: What’s one thing you’d tell yourself on the first day of your software development journey if you could go back in time?
Gift: Relax, it's okay to feel like you don't know anything yet or don't understand the concepts yet, it takes time to solidify them and consistency is key so keep the fire burning!
Q: When you’re not writing code, what’s your favorite thing to do?
Gift: Netflix and chill. I also enjoy making videos on my YouTube channel and playing video games currently playing (The Last of Us II).
Q: Who or what is a source of inspiration for you in your career?
Gift: Sarah Drasner - She's been a huge source of inspiration since I started following her in the early days of my career. I also look up to other developers like Angie Jones and Cassidy Williams (@cassidoo) — they are doing amazingly well in the developer space and inspire me just by being their true selves. I feel lucky to learn from their experience and following their work closely.
