Hi Everyone!
I'm Bryce Rohrer (pronounced roar like a Lion).

I'm a 21 year old computer science student who lives in Ohio! I joined CodeNewbies because although I'm quite deep into a computer science degree I've only learned theory and haven't really put any of it into practice! (and also because my buddy @fajarsiddiq suggested I do so)

Nice to meet you all!

Here's what I'm working on, its a chrome extension that plays Synthwave for you while you code!

Hey CodeNewbies -

My name is Joe and Iā€™m a bit of a late bloomer. Iā€™m 35 and currently working as a City Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. I like my job enough and I make a pretty decent living, but my dream has always been to work in tech. Specifically to build things that matter. I tend to gravitate more towards the inner workings of technology, so I have a feeling Iā€™ll find my home working more with the back end, but Iā€™m still new, so weā€™ll see!

Currently Iā€™m taking the Python TechDegree course from TreeHouse, in hopes of giving myself a solid foundation in the language. I considered other options, but I needed something with a little more structure to get started without the price tag of a boot camp. But I plan to continue my journey with other resources once I earn the TechDegree. Iā€™m really liking what Iā€™ve been seeing over at DataCamp. And Iā€™m also planning on deep diving into some front end stuff too.

Iā€™ll try not to write a novel here, but I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi! Iā€™m an avid listener of CodeNewbie and all of Saronā€™s other podcasts as well. My favorite thing about CodeNewbie though is (and Iā€™m not kidding) every time I have a question pop into my head during an interview, itā€™s literally the NEXT question Saron asks the guest. Like every time. And I really appreciate that. CodeNewbie has pretty much been the most helpful resource for me as I start my journey. Canā€™t say enough good things.

Anyways, nice to meet you all and glad to be here. šŸ™‚

Hi. I'm a software engineer in South Africa. Looking to learn from others and give coaching and feedback. I have enjoyed CodeNewbie podcasts on dev.to and I think that's how I got here.

A fact about me is last weekend I did my first ever live coding session on YouTube to teach people how to build Jekyll sites.

Can a second year computer science major with no work experience get a software development or engineering part time job or internship

yes! however, you should have some projects to showcase the skills that you currently have to your potential employers. They would help to demonstrate that you are not just a flat white paper on your resume.

Indeed. I got my first dev job without previous dev jobs or any CS degree - on the strength of my GitHub repos.

Looking back now, my code wasn't so good but they say my potential and approach to coding (structuring code, making comments)

BTW the original post was suggesting #help as a tag on a new standalone post rather than as a comment here, so if you need more answers on the topic or have similar questions, post some new topics with that tag.

Hello all!

I'm Steph, a software engineer in Peru who wants to continue learning more and more. I worked as a Java developer for quite some time, and in my current job I'm a consultant, so I see many technologies. Right now I also have a side business on my own, a coaching program to help build a native app for iPhone with SwiftUI to non-developers or developers who are learning to code, through 1:1 Coaching.

After that, I would like to go into a more different direction, and check gameplay programing. But first! 3D Character Designer. So I want to check Blender (Because it's free, otherwise Maya), and UE4. But I need more time for this, since I'm also a first-time mom with a 2-years old baby girl.

PS: Message me if you're interested in my coaching program for iOS šŸ˜.

I have been a hardware guy, all my life but been trying to be a software guy for half my life.

Tried the HarvardX - CS50 course, twice and other courses but when it gets hard, I get easily distracted. I may need a study buddy.
