I’m Hiroko Nishimura, Founder of AWS Newbies & Career-Changer. Ask Me Anything!

Hi there!

I’m Hiroko: a technical writer and instructor who is dedicated to helping early-career developers break into AWS. I was featured on Season 17 episode 4 of the CodeNewbie Podcast!

Listen to the show right here on CodeNewbie Community:

I’d love to answer any questions you have about AWS, my career path, or anything else @saron and I chatted about.

Here are three things about me to kick things off

  • I started my career as a special education teacher
  • Later, I became an IT Helpdesk Engineer, then a SysAdmin… THEN a technical writer and instructor
  • I believe that anyone can enter the AWS ecosystem with the right instruction

Ask me anything in the thread below. I look forward to answering your questions!

Hi Hiroko, if you had to convince someone who already knows the React ecosystem that they should go deeper into AWS, what would be your arguments? And what certification would you recommend for that profile, DVA?

Thanks for the awesome work on AWS Newbies btw.

Hi Hiroko! Do you have any advice to share with someone who is newer in IT and is getting discouraged while studying for the AWS Cloud Practitioner exam?

Hi Gracie! Thanks for the q! I can really understand the sentiment, as that's exactly where I was when I created awsnewbies.com 3 years ago. I was so frustrated and discouraged by all the resources that I couldn't comprehend when trying to study for the AWS Cloud Practitioner exam.

awsnewbies.com is a great place to start, and if your company or library has a LinkedIn Learning subscription, introtoaws.com will help as well. There are also free video courses on YouTube. And for community, I recommend #100daysofcloud on Twitter and cloudnewbies.com on Discord to keep motivated!
