Ubuntu is an easy type/flavor/version ;)) (or distribution) of Linux.
In a nutshell, Ubuntu gives you a whole 'new computer' to play with.
It's FREE.
It has tons of FREE software that is used by software developers and engineers. You can easily load updated versions of Python, Ruby, and any language, Even tons of help.
I like Ubuntu for a couple of reasons; The number of people that use it is HUGE. So you can usually find info on anything, even when things go wrong. haha
