Microsoft Power BI updates

Power BI was initially dubbed Project Crescent and was initially launched in July of 2011 as a part of SQL Server, codename Denali. The name was changed to Power BI and released on September 13, 2013 under the name Power BI to Office 365. The initial version was based on Excel features such as Power Query, Power Pivot and Power View, Microsoft added additional features in the past, including high-end data connectivity for enterprises as well as security options. Power BI was launched as a stand-alone software in July of 2015.

This morning, Microsoft updates the Power BI application with new features and enhancements on a regular basis. For the latest version users are able to download the most recent version from the Power BI website or Windows 10 users can get Power BI Desktop from the Windows Store. If you are looking for career in Power BI consider earning Power BI Certification.

Microsoft Power BI works by connecting data sources and providing the business intelligence dashboard to users. It is able to connect using an Excel spreadsheet, or connect both on and cloud-based databases. The data gathered from cloud-based sources like Salesforce CRM can be constantly refreshed. In the case of applications such as excel, an Excel Workbook, and Power BI Desktop file connected to online or on-premises sources of data, Power BI users must manually refresh their data or create an update schedule to ensure that the data used in Power BI reports and dashboards utilize the most recent information available.
