"Hello World!" has never been about learning a language, but learning about the toolchain for that language.

originally the "Hello World!" example was just a straw man to force you to l*earn how to compile, link and run the simplest program possible*.

This language was C, which originally had notoriously difficult to set up and configure tool chains depending on the flavor/vendor you were using for the compiler and they were all different and incompatible and had what passed for documentation written for someone who already knew how to set it up by someone who already knew how to set it all up.

It was not designed as an example to teach you anything about the language other than how to compile and run a program. It because a "meme" straw man example for every language since, just for you to test and make sure you had the interpreter or whatever the toolchain was set up and working correctly.

This article mentions this and then completely misses the point of why it was created and its purpose.

Because no one can seriously say that they learn anything about writing a program in any given language from a "Hello World!" example.
