The possibility of a big league turnaround has emerged for veteran world star Andres Iniesta (40).
According to Italian media outlet DOTSPORTS on Aug. 31 (KST), Italian professional soccer team Como is actively pursuing Iniesta.
Como finished second in Serie B in the 2023-2024 season and will be promoted to the top division (Serie A) next season. Iniesta, a Spanish international midfielder, currently plays for Emirates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) First Division.
Known as the “Wizard” during his time at FC Barcelona in the Spanish Primera Liga, he played for Kobe in Japan's J1 League since 2018 before leaving the country to a rousing reception and joining the Emirates club in August last year.
“Iniesta is likely to accept an offer that would give him the chance to play in the Italian league,” 스포츠토토 DOTSPORTS reported.
Como has emerged as a possible destination because Iniesta has a “close friend” there. Cesc Fabregas, 37, who played with the Spanish national team and Barcelona, is an assistant coach at Como.
“Under the passionate leadership of Fabregas and coach Osian Roberts, Como want to build a team that can do well immediately after promotion to Seria A,” explained DOTSPORTS.
Furthermore, 'Fabregas will try to persuade his friend (Iniesta) to accept the offer,' adding that 'Iniesta will definitely arrive (in Italy) to lend a helping hand. The contract is already ready,” he said, adding that he believes Iniesta is likely to travel to Italy.
