That's fantastic! Tom. It's nice to have some friends who have similar interests.
Yes, I agree with you Bisrategebriel Fisseha!
You got this, Tom. I also very interested in learning more about TypeScript!
Hi Tom, It seems like you and I share similar goals. I also wish to be a good webdev in the future. Good luck with your studies! π
Thanks Randy! You too!
What language or framework have you decided to learn?
I have decided to focus on JavaScript in the short term.
Why did you pick it?
This will help build towards my ultimate goal in getting into web development. I also am learning more about HTML/CSS along the way.
I purchased a CSS and HTML book back in 2009 because I wanted to learn to code. I just now opened that book up the other day after startign this course. I know that I am in a better place to learn code now but I wish I hadn't waited 13 years to learn about the beautiful simplicity of HTML.
Same here! I'm having a lot harder time grasping JavaScript so I think I need to really focus on building a foundation here before branching to other languages.
Hello, @Ryan Day understanding JavaScript can be a bit tricky but with a bit of patience you can become a ninja in it.
I've also decided to go for JS in the short term. It seems easy enough and it's an attainable goal. :)
Reflection Questions:
My priority with learning to code isβ¦
a. My priority with learning to code it having fun and learning a new skill
Do you know HTML and CSS?
a. Yes, I have dabbled in HTML, CSS, and a bit of JavaScript over the years
Do you like to be more self-sufficient when learning things or completing projects? Or do you like to work in groups?
b. I like to be more self-sufficient, but find it helps to have a group of people to bounce ideas and problems off of when necessary.
Same here! I also want to build an e-commerce site too!
I tried doing it once but failed. Though that time I tried doing it with Python and Django and I was watching just tutorials without asking for help then I got stuck π
Keep being consistent in your learning and continue to build off the foundation you already have in JavaScript!
1. What language or framework have you decided to learn? This was such a hard choice because Iβm just starting out and still have so much to explore! That being said, I think JavaScript is the most important piece for me to focus on now.
2. Why did you pick it? Iβm most interested in web development and JavaScript seems to be the foundation of so many other related languages and frameworks. Iβm in the middle of the certification on fCC but Iβve got a long way to go to get a better grasp on the core syntax and concepts. Although I was VERY enticed by the blurb about Bootstrap, I think itβs smart to strengthen my knowledge of JavaScript before branching out.

Not yet.
Do you like to be more self-sufficient when learning things or completing projects? Or do you like to work in groups?
Jot down your thoughts on your learning style here. Certain frameworks/languages have active communities with lots of resources while others require a bit more independence.
I enjoy getting things done on my own but I understand having a great community is important.
Sounds interesting especially when you mentioned Python on backend. Good luck and have fun!

I personally love to work alone as I have been working alone for so long. But I definitely would to work in a group.
Enterprise development sounds interesting and I think "web apps" is a great area of focus, since they can be consumed in multiple mediums (desktop, mobile, etc.).
Wishing you the best on your adventures; you got this!

I also want to make great things with computers! starting with Javascript will help us reach that goal, i'm here whenever you need me :)
Okay thank u we should try to build some javascript projects together to polish some skills especially react
oh man, i'm cool with that! i'm just starting to learn how to use git and github, and after that i'm starting with Javascript. that'll be a great pratice! i'll text you as soon as i get the basics with them, you can tell me if you have an idea for a project to build >:)
Okay that's good. For me I have some basic JavaScript skills so when you are ready text me
1. What language or framework have you decided to learn?
JavaScript will be my preference I want to stick to for a while.
2. Why did you pick it?
It's one of the most powerful programming languages available in the world of web development, and it'll help me even more as I delve into different aspects of software development.
My thoughts exactly. I need to build a strong base in JS before moving into some of the other languages and frameworks.
What language or framework have you decided to learn?
I decided to learn Javascript, and planning to start learning REACT later on
Why did you pick it?
The reason why I picked JS and REACT is, I want to learn the basic frontend skillset and JS and REACT is highly demanded in its field.
great! we'll be on the same road, i'm here whenever you need help :)
Thanks, buddy! :)
What language or framework have you decided to learn?
I have decided to learn JavaScript and two of it's frameworks (React and Nodejs).
Why did you pick it?
Well, reading through the features of each of the programming languages, I figured that JavaScript is not just easy to grasp but it's also newbie friendly. I also chose this language because of it's ability to be used on different platforms.

Do you like to be more self-sufficient when learning things or completing projects? Or do you like to work in groups?
Working on projects in a group is a lot of fun. However, at my current level, completing projects on my own allows me to learn and absorb more about web development.
we are walking on the same road, though i can tell you know more than me, but if you ever need my help, just ask for it :)
What language or framework have you decided to learn?
I decided to learn Perl for web development.
Why did you pick it?
I started learning Perl a year ago and it was fun. I like the way it works. There is this CGI module which I learned not long ago and I would like to learn more and try out some of the features of the CGI module to make web pages work. I don't mind learning old-school stuff, because I'm still learning quite a lot on how the web works through it.
I'm thinking to use Perl to serve as the backend, while the frontend I'll just use HTML and some CSS, or Bootstrap maybe.
There is a popular web framework for Perl called Mojolicious, but I'll leave that for another time :)
What language or framework have you decided to learn?
I have some experience with JS/HTML/CSS, and I'm going to continue with those on my own. As for this Cohort, I want to learn basic Python.
Why did you pick it?
I wrote my first bit of Python back in 2014. I don't even remember what it was, but I do remember it worked. With all the programmatic changes to OSes and coding languages in the years since, I'm not sure it would work these days. I'd like to learn basic Python with a goal of using my combined skills in a software testing/QA job.
I am going to work on a project using Ruby
The first time I heard the name I was intrigued and now that I am building my own personal site it would be really cool to learn this and put it on Rails!
Which platform/field would you like to work in?
I want to work in [web/mobile/enterprise/game] development I am really looking forward to enterprise development,
I like the idea of being able to code my own simple HTML projects but I don't think webdev is where I am wanting to-go
in the long run. For this project I am leaning towards Ruby.
Which platform/ field would you like to work in? I want to work in web, mobile or game development. In regards to language I would like to focus on Python.
What do you want to build first? I would like to build an app first. Mobile App or Web App doesn't really matter to me.
My priority with learning to code is? Simply having fun, writing efficient code, and being able to use my knowledge for practical application. I would like to be able to take that knowledge and help other victims of Domestic Violence who are also victims of cyber stalking or who have had their identity stolen or accounts hacked by their abusers.
Do you know CSS and/or HTML? Yes, I do.
Do you like to be more self-sufficient when earning things or completing projects? Or do you like to work in groups? I like completing projects along the way but with enough time to complete them on my own timeline. Just because my life is so busy, it's easier for me to complete things on my own timeline. Sometimes the only time I have to myself is at 2 am lol.
Which platform/field would you like to work in?
I find web development very interesting and I would like to work in it.
What do you want to build first?
I want to build a website that can track every year, month, week, day, hour, minute and second of my existence on earth.
My priority in learning to code is?
I am learning to code because I want to change my career path.
Do you know HTML and CSS?
Yes, I have gone through some tutorials on HTML and CSS.
Do you like to be more self-sufficient when learning things or completing projects? Or do you like to work in groups?
I like to learn new topics or concepts personally before applying it to a group work.
I'm definitely enjoying the self-paced courses I've been taking but couldn't agree more with the need to talk through problems with folks. I've been doing a lot more YouTube courses where someone talks me through the problems as opposed to just the written challenges. That's been helping me a lot more.
1. Which platform/field would you like to work in?
I want to work in web develompment. Maybe game development on the side.
2. What do you want to build first?
I want to start building simple websites.
3. My priority with learning to code is...
Having a practical skill while having fun with the possibilities it may enable.
4. Do you know CSS and/or HTML?
Not yet. Iβve been tapping into CSS and HTML while going over an introduction to JS.
5. Do you like to be more self-sufficient when learning things or completing projects? Or do you like to work in groups?
I try to be self-sufficient, although I believe in order to properly learn to code, I may need to complete projects and take guidance from people who have been there and done it. I like to work alone but coding is out of my comfort zone, so I see myself relying on groups of programmers who have put together vast amounts of resources for us newbies to rely on.
So I've decided to learn JS, for starters, because it seems pretty easy to learn.
1. What language or framework have you decided to learn?
I've decided to focus on JavaScript to begin with.
2. Why did you pick it?
It's a good place for a beginner to start and is one of the most popular front-end languages at present. Also, a good majority of developer roles in my area require that you at least have basic knowledge of it.
Which platform/field would you like to work in?
I want to work in [web/mobile/enterprise/game] development
_JavaScript_with_React for_web_development_.

Do you like to be more self-sufficient when learning things or completing projects? Or do you like to work in groups? Jot down your thoughts on your learning style here. Certain frameworks/languages have active communities with lots of
resources while others require a bit more independence.
I chose JavaScript with the React framework to make a career change to web development. Since I have already done some preliminary study with these, I decided to continue using it for this challenge.
Hi Randy,
I'm also planning a career change to web development, although unlike you, I have noooo experience. I'm working on changing that, though. I wish you good luck with your plans. :)
I've decided to learn Javascript and also look into the Bootstrap and React frameworks (to decide which I'll like better) because it aligns with my goal of going into Web Development.
i see we have the same goals, if you need my help someday in this path of becoming a web developer i'll be glad to help you :)
Thank you, I'll keep that in mind.
What language or framework have you decided to learn?
I have decided to learn python.
Why did you pick it?
I have some base knowledge in python. And would like to continue to expand on it.
1-I really want to start coding videogames with c# but i also know that i need to learn something faster that will give me faster results, so i'm choosing Javascript and become a web developer for this challenge! the framework that i will work with is react! i really like the idea of being a web developer. After getting the things that i need in my personal life i'll start my way as a game dev.
2- i picked it because i heard there are a lot of opportunities if you know how to code with them, so i want my situation to get better :)
if you need my help here, i would be delighted to help you!
Which platform/field would you like to work in?
I want to work in [web/mobile/enterprise/game] development Web and Mobile Development (JS then React). Eventually Swift.

Learning code efficiently to land a job.
Do you know CSS and/or HTML?
If not, thatβs totally fine! If you donβt know CSS or HTML, these are good starting points.
Yes, a summary of most but not detailed.
Do you like to be more self-sufficient when learning things or completing projects? Or do you like to work in groups?
Jot down your thoughts on your learning style here. Certain frameworks/languages have active communities with lots of resources while others require a bit more independence.
I would love to finish projects but I'm not opposed to starting another and completing it later. As long as my knowledge grows. I don't mind groups as long as the group is a nice and helpful one.
Sorry, bit late to the boat here, none the less I wanted to get my homework in, even if its a little late;
What language have you decided to learn? Why did you pick it?
I'm going to focus on learning Javascript because I want to learn how to build websites and eventually mobile apps. I also appreciate that there are resources I can use as I'm learning. I am completely new to coding so this makes me feel at ease. I also want to learn HTML and CSS along the way.
Which platform/field would you like to work in?
All of the fields sound interesting lol. I'm most interested in web and mobile app development.
What do you want to build first?
I want to get familiar with building websites then shift to app development.
I'm learning to code for fun and gain a skill that I can use in the future. My goal is to be a practicing hobbyist and build websites/apps in the future.
Do you know HTML or CSS?
No, not yet. I've played around with it on an app called Mimo but haven't applied it in the real world.
Do you like to be more self-sufficient when learning things or completing projects? Or do you like to work in groups?
I think it depends on what I'm learning and what the task is. Usually, I like to learn on my own first and reach out to a group or ask for help when I need it or get stuck.
