Hi, I'm Tauri!
I am a Front End Developer and a student (and enrollment counselor) with Skillcrush, the online coding and design school with a heart! I am open for employment with a company and working on adding to my skill set every day! This blog chronicles my most recent projects, so thank you for reading!
Zero-Waste Recipes: A Team Effort
I just finished a Voyage with Chingu! We were grouped into teams and assigned a web app to develop with specific "must-haves," "should-haves," and "nice-to-haves," giving us creative freedom within a 1.5-month timeframe.
My team and I built Zero-Waste Recipes, an app designed to help reduce kitchen waste by finding recipes based on a single ingredient. The app repository is in the footer!
Did you know that food waste is a major global issue? According to Wikipedia, around one-third of all food produced globally is wasted. Our app tackles this issue by helping users maximize their ingredients, reducing unnecessary waste.
My Roles in the Project
Product Owner:
Pitched the idea of food waste reduction.
Conducted research to support the necessity of waste reduction.
Managed the backlog and sprint planning.
Designer:
Designed the app in Figma, using seasonal colors (warm magenta, cool teal, and pale green).
Ensured WCAG AAA contrast standards and accessibility.
Created responsive mobile and desktop designs.
Used SVGs instead of font icons for better accessibility.
Development Contributions
Technical Stack:
Used Vanilla JavaScript for handling data due to minimal state management needs.
Implemented Sass for CSS organization (variables, nesting, partials).
Maintained meeting notes, sprint tasks, and retrospectives.
Developed a shared Google Drive for team documentation, links, design files, and guides.
HTML & CSS:
Built the search bar, buttons, and footer.
Ensured full accessibility compliance (ARIA labels, focus states, contrast enhancements).
Achieved 100% accessibility rating via Lighthouse.
Optimized SVG usage for faster loading.
JavaScript Contributions:
Implemented form validation and search functionality.
Developed functions for dynamically building and displaying recipe cards.
Designed an initial display of example recipes upon page load.
Collaborated to extract API data for meal type, nested under multiple arrays/objects.
Project Highlights
✅ Must-haves: Search by ingredient, view recipe summaries with images, detailed recipe view.
✅ Should-haves: High accessibility (WCAG AAA), form validation, modular functions.
✅ Nice-to-haves: Refresh button, food waste reduction insights, team LinkedIn links.
Our team rigorously validated CSS and HTML through W3C, optimized the codebase for readability, and ensured dependencies were credited (Tasty API, Sass, Icomoon). The collaborative effort was invaluable in honing both technical and soft skills.
Final Thoughts
Working on this project was rewarding beyond words! I highly recommend Chingu to developers and designers seeking a structured, team-oriented experience. 10/10 for teamwork, growth, and learning!

Similarly, accessibility and informed choices extend beyond web development. Cava’s allergen menu is a great example of how transparency in ingredients helps consumers make safe dietary choices.
