How to Get More Eyes on Your Website (6 Expert Tips)

Do you want to learn how to get more eyes on your website? If so, you're in the right place!

Business leaders, marketers, and creators across all industries know that getting people to visit their websites is one of the best ways they can establish their presence and build a direct line to their target audience. It doesn't matter if you sell software, shoes, or something else -- getting people to check out your site is a crucial factor in your success.

I've run 30+ successful websites over the last 15+ years, and I've learned a lot along the way. Today, I'm going to share 6 strategies that have helped me reach my audience and skyrocket traffic, engagement, and sales.

Let's get started!

Create High-Quality Content

One of the most efficient yet often overlooked strategies in driving traffic is the creation of high-quality content. Publishing engaging blog posts on your site will help you establish yourself as a valuable, knowledgeable source of information. Depending on your industry, content is also a great way to provide readers with entertainment.

There are a ton of different types of content you can publish, including informative blog posts, videos, and visually appealing infographics. Each format caters to your audience in different ways. One visitor might want a step-by-step guide; others might be interested in a video demonstration of your product or service.

The reason people check out your content will vary based on what you're offering. However, the main point is they want to find something that brings value to their lives by either resolving a pain point, meeting a need, or helping them reach a goal.

If you manage to win over a visitor, there's a good chance they'll return to your site because you already helped them once. Furthermore, they're more likely to share your content on social media and with friends, which means you can reach people who have never heard of your site.

If you're wondering about the impact of publishing good content, consider this: brands that embrace blogging see 55% more website traffic than those that do not. This increased visibility gives businesses a significantly higher chance of being discovered by potential customers.

This data correlates with another study that found that 57% of marketers reported gaining a new customer, specifically through their blog.

Build Your Email List

One strategy I've found essential for improving website traffic is growing our email list and inviting subscribers to return to our site. The way it works is pretty simple. We use lead magnets, like discounts or exclusive content, to entice visitors to sign up.

After a user joins our list, we send them what we promised them when they signed up and ask them to share a little more about their interests and reason for clicking subscribe.

For instance, a pet supply website might ask new subscribers what type of animals they own so they can send relevant content and promotions in the future.

The reason we do this is because personalization is, without a doubt, the best way to get people to engage with your brand, and that includes clicking back to your website.

By segmenting your subscriber list into different groups, you can tweak your content to match their specific interests. We found that around 77% of all email engagement stems from segmented campaigns.

Here are a few actionable ways to ensure people make it back to your site from your marketing emails:

  • Promote enticing Offers: More than half of the people are likely to visit a website via email if it involves a discount.
  • Benefit-focused Call-To-Action: Include clear, compelling, and actionable directions that encourage and reward users for interacting with your content.
  • Optimize for Mobile: Most people use their smartphone to open emails, so make sure your messages are mobile-friendly.

Host Webinars and Live Events

Webinars and live events are powerful tools to showcase your expertise and connect with an engaged audience. These platforms allow you to demonstrate your knowledge in real time, providing value that can foster trust and establish your brand as a thought leader.

We've used these events for years to build rapport, share expertise, and learn more about the people who engage with our brand. I would say that every single time a webinar ends, we discover a little more about our target audience and our place in their lives.

If you're thinking about hosting a webinar, here are a few keys to drive engagement:

  • Interactivity: Encourage questions and discussions during the event. We open the floor to attendees for about 20 minutes at the end of each presentation.
  • Relevant Content: Address current issues or topics your audience cares about. If you don't know, ask! Simply asking your audience to tell you what they want to see next can become a goldmine of webinar ideas.
  • Accessible Timing: Schedule your webinar at a time when most of your audience can attend. If you're in the UK, and 70% of your audience is in the US, having your webinar in the middle of the night in your time zone will result in significantly more attendees and interactions.
  • Host on social media: 90% of people say they watch videos on social media at least once a month. I'd wager to bet a majority of these people watch at least once or twice a week.

Once the webinar ends, present a clear call to action and direct them to specific landing pages for more information. If they liked what you had to say, there's a very good chance they'll make it back to your website.

In terms of other live events, I'm a big fan of contests and giveaways. These don't take a lot to set up but can create excitement and boost your website visibility. I suggest choosing a prize from your online store. This will result in people checking your website to learn more.

Engage in Community Forums

Participating in online forums, including social media groups, is an excellent way to build your presence and drive people back to your website. When you actively engage in these communities, you get a unique opportunity to talk to your target audience.

I've found that spending a couple of hours a week chatting with people who are interested in your industry can have a massive impact on traffic.

To add value in forums, focus on being helpful rather than promotional. Answer questions, offer insights, and share relevant information without overtly selling your services. This approach helps to build trust and lays the groundwork for organic promotion of your website when the context is appropriate.

There's a good reason 66% of social media marketers are investing in building communities this year: it works! By doing this, you can stand out as a knowledgeable leader in your industry and attract more traffic to your website through the trust and authority you build.

Start Guest Posting

Guest posting is a great way to establish your authority and boost your exposure. Essentially, guest posting is when you publish content on a website that's not your own. By offering high-quality content to other relevant blogs or websites in your field, you can reach a broader audience and get people to visit your site who may not know you exist.

I've found the best way to identify guest posting opportunities is to research popular blogs in your industry. Check for a "Write for Us" or "Contribute" page. Similarly, you can type in industry keywords and follow them with the phrases above. This trick will show you a bunch of sites that are looking for people to write for their site.

Bloggers and business leaders know that guest posting is an effective way to boost traffic; that's why 60% of these folks write 1-5 guest posts every month.

If you're thinking about pursuing this strategy, it's important to remember that you need to follow the guidelines established by the publication you want to write for. So, read their rules carefully before you submit your pitch and while you're writing your guest post.

Optimize Your Website for SEO

Optimizing your site for search engines is another essential for driving new traffic. SEO helps your website show up in search results, which will make it easier for people to discover your website.

Want to know how this will affect you? Consider this: statistics show that SEO drives a lot of website traffic: it's the main source for 78.3% of marketers, and 68% of online experiences begin with a search engine. In other words, you can dramatically increase traffic and engagement if you're willing to take the time to optimize your site.

Here are a few practical and actionable tips to consider:

  • Use the right keywords: These are words people might use when they search for information. Including these throughout your site can improve your search position. However, moderation is crucial since Google penalizes keyword stuffing.
  • Write good meta descriptions: A meta description is a summary of a page and is designed to attract people to click on your search listing by hinting at the value inside.
  • Speed up your website: When your site loads quickly, people will have a better experience. Google suggests sites load in 3 seconds or less to keep users engaged and reduce bounce rates.
  • Make your site mobile-friendly: Over half of all people use mobile devices to browse the web, so ensure your site is easy to use on these devices.

There are other ways to improve your search position, but these strategies will get you started in the right direction.

Final Thoughts

My final piece of advice is to look at your analytics reports every week. Discover how people are finding your site and pursue those strategies so you can continue to grow. This will help you figure out what's working and where you can improve.

As you can see, there are many different ways to get more eyes on your website. The advice shared today has helped us grow many different brands over the years. I'm confident that if you're patient and persistent, you can achieve similar results.
