Welcome Thread - V55

Welcome everybody to the CodeNewbie Community!

Heads up that this is our final welcome thread for the CodeNewbie Community. We are transitioning this community to DEV and have created a CodeNewbie org that we'd encourage you to follow for beginner-friendly content, discussions, and more. We also recommend following the #beginners & #codenewbie tags. And of course, don't forgot to hop into the welcome thread there to introduce yourself and meet new folks.

Hope to see you all on DEV! šŸ‘‹

Hello everyone! I wanted to develop a website on my own so I started exploring. Now I'm trying to learn basic HTML and CSS from YouTube tutorials and articles. I'm also using Replit on my phone to code as I don't have a computer (it's broken). So it would be helpful to know if I can really learn through the Android app or should get a computer.

Flurin de Almeida

Hi everyone,

I'm Flurin and I'm a 45 yo bloke from Switzerland.

I had C and Matlab at Uni and hated it. Fourteen years later, I'm now retired due to my disability (PTSD, CPTSD, GAD, Burnout and a slew of physical problems) with plenty of time on my hands and I'm rediscovering the wonderful world of programming through development boards like Arduino. I know some basic Python thanks to Coursera and the videogame "The Joy of Programming".

I look forward to learning with you and from you. I'm currently reading... hearing "The Pragmatic Programmer". Best wishes for a great weekend from this failed mechanical engineer turned tinkerer.

Exploring my path in the world of computer science has been an exciting journey in search of my true calling. As I navigate the code and complexities of technology, I discover new facets of myself. Although, for now, my only haven of true satisfaction is immersing myself in the world of online casino gaming, sharing the enlace here. The interesting thing is that, beyond simple entertainment, I find in them an opportunity to win in an intelligent way, always keeping a cool head. Being selective and strategic has become key, proving that, even in chance, you can find an intelligent balance between fun and profit. Who knows, maybe this is just the beginning of a journey that combines my passion for technology with the measured thrill of online gaming. šŸŽ®šŸ’»āœØ

Hello nerds! I am Ced. I do web development, front-end coaching and I stream coding-related content on Twitch.

I specialise in web apps development with VueJS and I am currently practicing using NuxtJS on my personal projects.

On stream, I code (with half of my brain power left šŸ˜†) and get trolled by viewers sometimes. šŸ¤£ It has been fun and has brought me much since I started.

I would be happy to help some of you here on the platform. I made the mistake of being too shy and not seek help when I started learning programming. I hope my contribution can help make this part of the journey more pleasant for you.

See you soon nerds! šŸ¤“

My last coding job was about ten years ago, writing front-end ruby, javascript, html, and CSS on a Ruby on Rails framework for a site called viewpoints.com. My boss was a lizard from outer space, but I had great coworkers and learned a lot: VIM, GitHub, terminal, and other stuff... but I don't remember lots of it.

I took a break from coding to do other things until 2017, when I became curious about AI. To start, I took Andrew Ng's Machine Learning course and found it fascinating. The next year I was accepted into a pretty good AI grad program. I couldn't attend for family and work reasons. I don't remember most of the technical stuff I learned, but it helps my perspective on AI news. It also gives me some confidence I can learn a new technical skill if I focus.

Now, I'm learning Unity. If you have advice, I AM LISTENING.

I'm also interested in game design, narrative design, and anyone's metaverse ponderings. Love anime. Currently catching up on Mob 100 and happy dad to a 15-month-old.
