Hwang Hee-chan's Wolverhampton are at the center of a goalkeeping saga.
Wolverhampton are planning to sell goalkeeper Jose Sa, who is being courted by Saudi Arabia, after the season. An alternative has emerged. 'Aaron Ramsdale, who has been reduced to a backup at Arsenal, is considering a shock move to Wolverhampton,' the UK's 'The Sun' reported on Nov. 21 (KST).
The move is being made by agent Jorge Mendes. The Portugal international has been Wolverhampton's first-choice goalkeeper for three seasons, starting in 2021-2022.
Ramsdale has been on a tear this season. He lost out to David Luiz, who arrived on a loan deal that included an outright transfer. Ramsdale has made just six appearances in the English Premier League (EPL) this season, and he's been linked with a move away from Arsenal at the end of the season.
Wolverhampton have additional options should they not be able to secure his signature. Liverpool's Quivin Kelleher and Anthony Paterson of Sunderland in the Championship (second tier) are on the list.
Kelleher is filling the void left by Alisson Becker's injury. He has kept 26 appearances in goal this season, including 10 in the EPL. Since arriving at Liverpool in August 2018, he has seen the light of day, μμ λμ΄ν° playing more games this season than in his previous five seasons.
However, when Alisson returns from injury, Kellerher will have to return to the bench once again. There is talk that he could consider a move now that he has had a 'taste of the first team'.
Patterson is recognized as one of the best in the Championship. However, Sunderland missed out on promotion to the EPL this season. Patterson is looking to make the jump to the EPL.
The Wolverhampton man played full time in the 34th round of the 2023-2024 EPL against Arsenal at the Molineux Stadium on Sunday, but the Gunners lost 2-0, conceding two goals.
Hwang's return to the starting lineup came nearly two months after his injury. However, it was overshadowed by the team's loss.
Raya played the full game for Arsenal, while Ramsdale remained on the bench.
