Hey! I am studying Computer Science in college. I want to be a fullstack developer but I'm still exploring various fields where I can give my best to the community.
As soon as I heard the word Jamstack I jumped to the jamstack website to learn more about it. Thanks for your reply.

It's my second open source event and I do love the fact that how interactive the community is to help the beginners.

I've always been a maker, I have degrees in Fine Arts, and as I explored more digital mediums I was introduced to web development. I wound up really enjoying it and slowly make the shift to working in Software development.

What's your content experience, have you used a CMS? πŸ’¬
I have worked with a couple CMSs, I used Strapi to build out a quick prototype, but I's probably need to go through the docs to set something up again.

Have you ever heard of Headless CMS? Strapi? Jamstack tools?
I have heard of Strapi and as I mentioned before I got to play with it, but I am no expert and enjoy exploring new concepts.

When I was getting my MFA, I tough a project about collection and while it was rudimentary, the course required the students to present their collection in a web format using iweb, which is what initially got me interested in building web sits, but then I want the sites I was building to do more which led me to learning javascript bit by bit and taking classes to understand a bit more. Hanging out with local meetups, but in my mind there isn't much difference between software development and creating art, because in the end you are still making something that you enjoy.
We've been using NextJS in my current projects, but I'll have to take a look at Strapi again, soon.

Hi Strapi πŸ‘‹

  • Why did you become a developer? πŸ’‘
I have always loved to build things. Learned some HTML/CSS as a child but was never able to learn how to code. Life happened and, as I was about to turn 30 and unhappy with the career path I had been led to, decided to follow what I wanted to be as a child (: I'm a second semester undergrad student and have just began on my first Junior Developer job.

  • What's your content experience, have you used a CMS? πŸ’¬
Only Wordpress and not as a dev, but as a desperate teen pushing buttons and trying to make it work without knowing how to code lol

  • Have you ever heard of Headless CMS? Strapi? Jamstack tools? πŸ€”
Nope, this is the first time I hear about it, and I'm looking forward to learn more on how it works.

Why did you become a devloper?
Here's a question. Why do we study? Some will say "to make sure that we have some kind of survival tool" and some will say for the love of the subject they like the most. For me, the second view holds true. I was initially into competitive coding but my mind changed and I got into development when I realized that I was just coding and competing with others while creating no value from my skill for the community.

What's your content experience, have you used a CMS?
I have some experience using Wordpress as I am currently using it to build my website.

Why did you become a developer? πŸ’‘

I have a creative streak, and enjoy making things that people will use. I've been making websites for fun since high school and geocities, and decided when it was time to go back to work after staying home with my kids that I'd rather go into tech than back to social work. So I jumped into a bootcamp, and now I'm starting my job hunt :)

What's your content experience, have you used a CMS? πŸ’¬

I have used things like WordPress for personal projects in the past. I have also built a full Rails app (front end as well as backend), and I have built a Rails API backend to manage content for a object-oriented JS frontend.

Have you ever heard of Headless CMS? Strapi? Jamstack tools? πŸ€”

I have heard of Jamstack previously (actually heard about it in a CodeNewbie podcast). I found Strapi this morning as I was scrolling through job listings. And I did not know before today what a headless CMS is, but turns out I did know; I just didn't know what it was called. πŸ˜…

Why did you become a developer? πŸ’‘

I ended up exploring web development when I started going to a community college several years ago. Before college, I never would have envisioned myself as any type of developer since I thought the career only accepted folks that have extremely advanced mathematics, computer science degrees, etc. I was more interested in art, drawing, crafts, design, and I had already assumed I couldn't be someone that develops software professionally.

I realized that software development is extremely, extremely broad, and there are countless ways to craft software: developing, creating UIs, testing, writing, and so so so much more.

Plus, there are so many welcoming communities online that lift folks up, especially newer people that are interested in learning, and I realized that maybe this is something I can do. There are so many resources to benefit from and help you, so that you can be a valid contributor without having a full 4-year computer science degree. It's been a wonderful experience, but there are still tons of challenges. I am definitely sticking around, helping where I can within reason, and want to try to make things a little better for someone out there.

What's your content experience, have you used a CMS? πŸ’¬

I actually have become intimately familiar with a specific CMS called Drupal! That's the open source technology I worked with closely during my early career as a developer. I wasn't crafting the content, but I was helping out the folks that are in charge of that aspect of the websites. I also helped with the public-facing view of the sites. I'd like to play around with other CMS so I can have a better understanding of what solutions they've come up with to common problems for sites that are running as a CMS.

Have you ever heard of Headless CMS? Strapi? Jamstack tools?

Definitely have some familiarity with Headless CMS setups. I don't claim to be an expert with the front-end side, but I have some understanding of the underlying architecture and how data is fed from the CMS to the FE piece. I believe I've heard the name Strapi, but never explored further. I am interested in looking more into Strapi and what solutions exist that are powered with Strapi!

Thanks for sharing Britanny!!

So many people feel they need to have amazing math skills to be good at or even consider a career like this. I'm sure you sharing this gives them something to think about!!

Oooh looks like you've got quite some experience with CMSs. what problems are hoping CMSs have solved as you get into exploring others?

Collapse

brittanyhuntzberry profile image
Brittany Huntzberry

A big thing for me is the content editor experience, but also tempering that with accessibility. It's a complex area to populate with robust solutions, especially since accessibility is so dependent on context.

Content management systems that build with accessibility in mind from day 1 are very rare and I'd love to support those that do!

Why did you become a developer? πŸ’‘
I used to love Maths, Science and Technology in my school time. And I chose Computer Science as my major in college as I used to love solving problems specially mathematical problems and was curious about how different websites are created, how softwares are developed. I started with web development in my 2nd year and from then onwards I started building webpages and maintaining websites. I like how programming allows us to develop new softwares and create whatever we want. And that's how I became a Software Developer.

What's your content experience, have you used a CMS? πŸ’¬
It's been only two months that I have started working as a Software Developer but I am new to CMS.

Have you ever heard of Headless CMS? Strapi? Jamstack tools? πŸ€”

I've always been passionate about technology and design, and that's what got me into web development. Integration of design and web development is the reason I'm an aspiring web developer right now.
