Theories Of Motivation

Content theories and process theories are frequently distinguished in theories of motivation. In essence, content theories define motivation whereas process theories describe its occurrence. Several cognitive theories also address motivation and explain how our thoughts and perceptions of ourselves and the environment around us might affect our motivations. These ideas cover everything from self-concept, cognitive dissonance, and mentality to values, orientation, and perceived control to explain how our preference for particular mental constructions can either improve or worsen our capacity for goal-directed activity. The areas of human activity that each theory of motivation applies to are likewise grouped. A number of theories, including those from sports and performance psychology, relate to motivating employees where incentives and needs take center stage.
Understanding what motivates someone to strive for a specific end or goal is the subject of motivation theory. Despite being particularly significant for business and management, it is relevant to every aspect of society.
