[Keynote] Everything We Forgot to Tell You About Forem

In this keynote for CodeLand 2021, I share as much information as I can about what we’ve been up to with Forem*. I try to assume that I need to catch you up on a few things.

Highlights include:

  • How is Forem related to DEV and CodeNewbie?
  • What use cases is Forem meant for?
  • How can you get involved, and how much does this relate to coding?
  • How can your organization make best use of Forem?

>> Download Slides Here

* As you'll discover in my talk, Forem is the open-source software the supports this very platform 🌱

If you start using Forem or want to get started definitely check out forem.dev. A lot of us on the Forem team are there to help as well as a lot of community members who have already started using Forem :)

Absolutely!

So much about working in software is understanding the boundaries, how to use vs develop yourself. Forem is a really interesting learning experience that can apply to everything you will wind up doing.

@ben , Love hearing the intent behind Forem.

I’m intrigued, though, about the meaning of the logo. What’s the meaning behind all the characters (besides, making jt look like a face)?

It almost looks like you could use the shapes to spell Forem. I wonder if that's it!

Yeah, basically. We call the shapes that you can make of the sub-shapes a "pictogram", and the idea is that Forem can be re-shaped to make whatever you want of it.
