From Front Desk to Front End p.13

(My draft for this week was down for me on Tue! So posting on Weds due to tech difficulties. :) )

Hi I'm Tauri, a Front Desk Admin from an acupuncture clinic in San Diego, Cali and an aspiring Front End Developer!

This is a continuation of my series studying Front End Development thru a bootcamp with Skillcrush and utilizing many amazing resources across the internet like Front End Mentor and LinkedIn Learning and many many articles!

Every 3 weeks I do a deeper dive into a topic related to being a full time worker and bootcamp student!

I hope you find content that you can relate to and that inspires you to keep learning and growing here. {:

Thank you for reading! 🌈

I worked more on my Repo Gallery(repo). I finished the function to display my repos, called in my user info and displayed it, then hit an error code when trying to display the languages I used, bum bum bum!
Error code Failed to Fetch
So I went for the easy-pickings first and investigating line 71 for errors, but didn't see any! I briefly went down the wrong rabbit hole and Googled the code about access to origin being blocked by the CORS policy, but I didn't go too deep before seeking some feedback on the Skillcrush Slack.
I started lessons today on LinkedIn Learning on SASS Essentials! Tried to create environment for SASS but hit a snag with installing SASS locally. The description of everything involved in setting up this environment was very brief in this tutorial, so I'm going to find another article specifically focused on SASS installation and try again tomorrow.

I spent my study session working on and finishing my Github Repo Gallery(live site)!!!
So Lisa one of the teaching assistants at Skillcrush helpfully just repointed me at line 71 when reviewing my issue, and today my fresh eyes saw that I put quotes (back ticks) around a dot notation fetch address, whoops!
So I finished it all off with a back button to circle back after looking at the details of a repo, and I added a dynamic search which was VERY exciting! A lot of my app ideas are based on solid Info Retrieval Systems so I'm excited to learn some functionality behind that!
This bring me to the conclusion of my Javascript Fundamentals class, wooooooo!!!!

I went to the Girls Who Code virtual hiring summit today! It was awesome! I loved the panelist discussions covering the first 30 Days on the Job (a topic I don't see often discussed) and Interviewing the Interviewer! I connected with a lot of fellow students, asked some questions of panelists and connected with them too, and got a list of good companies to keep tabs on throughout my journey so a win!
I soso intended on getting some work done today, but was pretty pooped from networking and v distractable. I decided to give myself the day off esp bc I just finished JS!!, started to mess with preparing the maps for my D&D campaign to print, realized I was too tired for that and face planted on the bed for a nap instead. ❤️

This article by KoderHQ was very helpful in explaining and guiding me thru installing SASS locally. I appreciate that the commands are really broken down in this explanation.
So the next class in my Front End Development program is Javascript React! However I would like to add Wordpress classes to my curriculum bc I am in love with its features and would love if I could be a WP developer professionally! So I have my between-classes mentor meeting on Thu morning, and I'm going to ask them what they think I should shift to next, esp given my additional practice goals (bigger Front End Mentor projects with JS!, Wes Bos 30 days of JS!), and my hiring goals (Lesbians Who Tech is coming again in October! The pressure to divert focus to a portfolio is real!). So I will be taking it a little easy until Thu. :)

I starting learning about SASS, which is very exciting! Today I reviewed mix-ins and lists (like arrays, whaa??) and my mind is blown!

Hi Tauri! Congrats on finishing the JavaScript class! What LinkedIn Learning classes are you taking? I haven't really looked into the offerings. JavaScript 30 with Wes Bos has been really helpful for me. I am at the halfway point and it has really shown me that there are several ways to code a solution to the same problem.

There is an episode of the CodeNewbie Podast with a WordPress developer as the guest. She is also a metal DJ which is p freakin cool in my opinion.
