Now that I've had a chance to transition out of my current job, it's time for the big news about my new job! πΊ πΊ πΊ
I have been contracted as an Enrollment Counselor for Skillcrush!
I have successfully Broken Into Tech, y'all!! With a nontechnical role, before even finishing my coding lessons, before starting the Get Hired portion of my program, and I believe exclusively based off of my willingness to put myself out there throughout this process!!!
This is a trial role for a brand new position as of this year, and I am stoked!
It's also a part time role, but I'm being paid far more per hour than my previous job so I can quit my full time job and make more money!
I thrive really well in roles in which I'm allowed to carve out my own value, which is what I've always done. Before starting off as a Front Desk Administrator, I worked in a non-hierarchical cooperative on my college campus in which we were basically allowed to choose how deep we wanted to go- and I chose to go real deep and get involved in payroll, in scheduling, in managing the biggest inventory account of our store, and in negotiating our rent with the university.
With my role as a Front Desk Admin for the past seven years, I learned a lot about billing and insurance for acupuncture that was not established before me. I spent most of the past two weeks creating training documentation for future clerks in my clinic.
So the pressure's on, and the role may not continue indefinitely regardless of what I do, but it's an amazing β¨opportunityβ¨
I'm incredibly proud to be working for a company like Skillcrush that is teaching such valuable skills in such an accessible way!
My biggest and longest term goals out of this journey were to pivot myself into a company that I would be honored to work for, and I'm so happy to have achieved that!
I will be still studying my technical skills with Skillcrush as a student, beginning with finishing up my course in Introduction to React. There IS a possibility I may become a full time and long time employee of Skillcrush!! but even so, the skills they teach are all important for lifetime career growth so I'll be checking out that portion of my program as well.
I'm still very interested in front end development, so I'm excited to keep digging into Front End Mentor projects as well as my own ideas for my blog.
I will also very likely be studying Design with Skillcrush as well for my own projects and to make me a better developer.
So that's my job announcement!!! π π π
I had a time between my jobs this week where I took another break from coding, so this is an abridged week. {:
Hi I'm Tauri, PREVIOUSLY a Front Desk Admin from an acupuncture clinic in San Diego, Cali and an aspiring Front End Developer!
This is a continuation of my series studying Front End Development thru a bootcamp with Skillcrush and utilizing many amazing resources across the internet like Front End Mentor and LinkedIn Learning and many many articles!
Right now I'm learning the React library for Javascript!
Every 3 weeks I do a deeper dive into a topic related to being a full time worker and bootcamp student!
Look forward to: Week 18 Minimizing stress and distractions while doing a code study session ((Postponed to Week 19))
I hope you find content here that you can relate to and that inspires you to keep learning and growing. {:

I messed around with old virtual pet programs from the 90s made by Mindscape and PF magic which so far was super easy to understand where it probably used to feel pretty discombobulating.
I pushed a wee bit of code by adding my font styles to my landing page project!
I started getting into the mood to keep learning more about React by watching the video lesson on Lifecycle methods with Skillcrush.

This was my last day at my job as a Front Desk Administrator/Medical Billing Clerk! I made my last billing and insurance verification calls, enjoyed some last chats with current and prospective patients, shared some nice messages with colleagues, and triumphantly closed out my last session!
My official day with my new job is Tue Nov 1st, so I am taking an extended weekend to visit with family and friends from out of town!
